Well, I certainly can’t say 2008 hasn’t been uneventful thus far. In fact it’s mind-boggling just how much can take place in just the first week itself, both the good and the bad! *sighs*
I’ve actually been typing up little updates of what’s happened in the past one week or so, and now that I’m stuck at home (you’ll find out why at a later part of this entry) I’ve had the time to compile everything into a long ass post, just for my readers! Yes, all 4 of you! :D
… Okie so I don’t actually know how many people still visit this blog and I can’t be bothered to get a site tracker, therefore I’ll just assume 4 readers are all I have. Coz 4 is a nice number anyway, heh.
Right, so here we go, beginning from LAST Friday…
Friday
Friday started off with a great buzz, especially with the prospect of the usual 2-hour lunch that we get for that particular day. :) This time around, we hopped onto the monorail train for lunch at this Hong Kong-style cafe (can’t quite recall its name in English right now, hmm) in Lowyat which was picked by Justin aka Chak Tin :P - the previous Friday, we went to Manhattan Cafe opposite of Times Square as recommended by SCG, which funnily enough had really good local food despite its Westernish name!
Then later that night, a couple of my coursemates and I met up again for some partying at Sanctuary Bar. It was the first time seeing everyone outside of class and dressed in non-formal wear, so funny. :P The attendees for the night were Jacklyn, Rachel, SCG, Justin, Shaun, Brian and Nicholas… and we had a blast!
I guess some of us had a bit too much fun, that our tiny table got toppled over and glasses fell onto the floor - I got cut on my right foot in 2 places and I didn’t even realize it till I noticed blood on my toe, omg! Later on I found another tiny sliver of glass stuck onto my left foot too. Next time I’m gonna wear combat boots or something, it seems that sandals aren’t safe enough in these places anymore. :P
After leaving Sanctuary and stopping at McD’s for some sobering tea, Shaun who was a fellow Subang kid, tossed his car keys at me and insisted he was in no condition to drive. So I drove both of us back to USJ, and we were conversing about his girlfriend problems during the whole journey, ahahah. -_-” It’s like what SCG said - maybe it wasn’t that he was too tipsy to drive, it was probably coz he needed someone to talk to?? Hrmm.
All in all, it was a great night except that it ended with some drama… Blehh. The weird thing is, at the beginning of the night I already had a bad feeling that something would come up, and at that time I couldn’t figure out why I would think like that. Well the hunch did prove to be right after all… Who knew a 5-minute ride back home could feel like an eternity? The silence that hung in the car like a heavy cloud was broken only by the occasional sigh from the driver side. And me? I was the motionless passenger, staring out into the night. Anyway, I guess things have been resolved now.. I hope. >.<
Saturday
LeeChuan was back from Singapore - woots! - so I saw him for lunch. No surprise that he wanted to go for bak kut teh, since all our MMU friends who went over to Singapore to work always craved for it when they’re back here. Heh heh. Later on we walked around Pyramid and hung out at Segafredo for tea and green apple ciggies which can only be found in Langkawi. :P Ahh those green apple ciggies will always be a reminder of the Langkawi trip 2006 with our MMU gang. And of course being where we were, we remembered about those ‘06 World Cup nights at KL Plaza’s Segafredo (which has sadly closed down now) we had! :)
Saturday’s dinner was courtesy of CheeKeat and KimHooi (who’s back from Denmark for a bit).. thanks guys for treating all of us! I decided to skip YiShen’s birthday celebration at Sava coz my tummy wasn’t feeling well and you seriously can’t be doing anything other than drinking with this bunch of alcoholic MMU seniors. :O I was at Station One instead with the Subang folks.
Sunday
Finally a day to recuperate and to catch up on much needed sleep!! I stayed in and worked on an assignment - heyy, play hard and work hard too, rite? But all focus on work went flying out of the window when Dad broke the sudden news that my dear grandmother in Kuantan was in the hospital, with a critical condition due to a major stroke. :((
Monday
Got pwned by the world’s worst morning traffic jam ever - left the house at 7.15 AM and walked in sheepishly to class at 9.15 AM! *faints* Also heard about the tragic sudden death of Ng Shu Zanne, who was a senior of mine back in high school. Hit and run drivers should just rot in hell. *shakes fist*
My supper was Starbucks’s mocha ice blended with my non-friend, Gan (heh heh). We reminisced quite a bit on those dramatic times during Beta year in MMU, didn’t we? There were some details which even I failed to recall at first!
I got home early enough to work on my assignment for the day… Then Dad gave an update that Grandma’s condition was worsening and she might not be able to hold on for much longer.. =(
Tuesday
Started the day extra early in an attempt to avoid the crazy jam, but the roads were still as congested as ever. SCG was the unfortunate witness to my black face and lousy mood - at one point I was blinking back tears as I talked about grandma. >.< And THEN my car got knocked on its rear while we were on the Federal Highway by a driver who was talking on the phone. Thank God it was just a light tap and there wasn't any damage, otherwise I was ready to let out a verbal lashing and get nasty. Arghh.
Still, managed a laugh when SCG started singing Baa Baa Black Sheep. It was so random okie. -_-”
Lunchtime came and Sara said, “Hey did u know that Gallen (SCG) got his fingers hurt while helping to close up the partition walls of our classrooms earlier? He’s gone to the hospital for an x-ray scan!”
The news got spread around and nobody really knew how severe it was until SCG returned - with a painfully swollen and temporarily non-functioning finger, but was otherwise all right. Sheesh. Too much drama for one day, I’d say!
Wednesday
The morning flew by without any incidents, and I thought it was gonna be a quiet day for once. However while walking the back lane in between shoplots to get to our lunch place, a huge piece of window pane and its glass came crashing down from the 2nd floor, right in front of us! Out of nowhere! O.M.G! All of us were so shaken up and it took awhile to register that it really did happen. Again, thankfully no one got hurt. ;(
After class, SCG the boss wanted to get some investment books so off we went to hunt for a Popular bookstore with a couple of other coursemates. Brian, Ivan (aka Sara’s Other Cute Guy), SCG, and I climbed into Justin’s car, who scared us to death with his, erm, less than graceful driving (Chak Tin’s from Penang, you understand :P). We had more than one near-accident, okie! Anyways we stopped by at Sungai Wang first but soon learned that the Popular outlet had closed down. Poop! We paused the search for dinner at Manhattan Cafe and then walked over to Lowyat coz Ivan wanted to get something. Oh, and it was unbelievable that Ivan’s already 30 and has 3 daughters?! He didn’t look a day older than, hmm, 25. But then again, he had no idea what “lala” meant, in the context of fashion. LoL Such an uncle.. The rest of us had a good laugh over that!
Later on we headed over to Petaling Street’s Popular bookstore, and the guys finally got the books they wanted, yayy. It was definitely a tiring but utterly hilarious and fun outing with this bunch, and I got to practise my lousy Mandarin and Cantonese with them so it’s all good. :P
Came home to receive news from Mum who heard from Dad (who drove back to Kuantan earlier that day) that Grandma had passed on… :( :( :(
She was my favourite grandmother, and I’d always looked forward to the trips back to Kuantan coz I knew I would be greeted by her warm smile, and she’d be asking us all on how we were doing - in a genuinely interested and caring manner. Well, the entire week I’d been praying for her and I said to God that if it was best for her to leave us so that she would stop suffering, then He could by all means take her away. I guess I got my prayer answered, though I hoped she went knowing that we all loved her muchly.
I still chose to go out later that night for a yamcha session with the Subang people since I’d already said I would before the news about Grandma reached me. In a way, I supposed I was already prepared for the worst so when it came, I was able to take it all in calmly. As it was, I’d done my grieving during the earlier portion of the week..
Thursday
Had to get myself to Mid Valley in the morning for a group project discussion. We finished up at about 1.30PM, and a few of us went for lunch - me, Fairuz (aka Sara’s New Cute Guy), Khairul, Sukri, and Sukri’s housemate (not too sure of his name as he just tagged along and wasn’t actually part of the group :P).
It was a funny lunch session with everyone talking nonstop, Fairuz in particular! *shakes head* So noisy, haha. Sara came over to Mid Valley to join us after she was done with her own group discussion at Sogo, which doubled the fun. :) This is another great group to hang out with, and I got to put my BM to use this time!
I bid everyone goodbye at 3PM to meet up with best bud Carmen in Bangsar for some shopping and girl talk. We spent most of our time at Cat’s Whiskers which was packed and it took forever to queue up for the fitting rooms. I left with just one purchase of an off-white bead necklace. :)
During the night, I had a late dinner and drinks at Leo’s with SCG… And somehow I got a Mandarin writing lesson from Boss. *rolls eyes* Oh well, I’m all up for self-improvement anyway! Keeping in mind that the last time I took Mandarin classes was back when I was eight, we started with something simple and with not many strokes: 早安 / zao an / good morning. Come come, let’s all learn together, aight? ;)
Friday
D-Day.
Mum took me to the hospital at 7AM for my surgery. Initially I didn’t want to make this a big deal so I only told a few people about this, but eventually I had to explain to more and more friends anyway for one reason or another. Haha. >.<
Anyway yeahh I was scared as hell coz I was never good with needles and pain and blood and all that! But I was so grateful for the support (you guys know who you are, thank you! *hugs*) and of course, Mum was there before I was taken to the operation room and she was there when I woke up later. :) <3
Everything went fine with the surgery, and I even sneaked out for a bit that night to see some of the Subang folks - Hui Zhi, Pooi, Wai Mun, and WeiPing.
Saturday
‘Course, the parental unit wasn’t too happy that I went out on Friday night coz I was supposed to be recuperating at home, so today I played the obedient daughter role and got plenty of rest. I did some reading and watched License To Wed (starring Robin Williams and Mandy Moore), which I kinda liked and got me laughing at quite a few funny moments.
But gosh, it never occurred to me how hard it’d be to just stay at home during the weekend and live on a diet of porridge and soft food..! *pulls at hair*
Thank goodness I can go to bed now, and tomorrow will be one less day of recovering for me. Wheee. :D *dances her way to bed*
