Okie this is going to be a very lazy post that I’m going to type just for the sake of maintaining some form of life to this blog. :D Someone please give me an award for Most Hardworking Blogger! Or not. Hehe.
First of all, quite obviously I managed to survive my outdoors experience at Outward Bound, Lumut. I’ve never talked to God as often as I did during those 10 days, honestly. LoL Most of the time it goes something like, “Oh dear Lord, just kill me right now!” or during my calmer moments, “Okay if I get through this, I’ll be forever in gratitude and promise to go to church every Sunday from now on.” Ahahah. It’s a lot easier to turn to religion when there’s nothing else to fall back on, I guess..
I mean, we didn’t even get to use the phone. Yeahhh. They made us switch off our handphones and hand them over for the instructors to keep on the very first day. But thank you anyway to everyone who texted even though I couldn’t reply as I didn’t manage to receive most of them - apparently the telcos would stop attempting to deliver the messages after 3 days. To Garick and HanRen who were just the slightest bit suspicious on this matter, I swear that’s the truth okie… you guys don’t have to call up Maxis to validate the fact! LoL
So basically Outward Bound training was about jungle trekking, overnight camping (both group and solo), kayaking, rock climbing, repelling, 7AM jogging, and holding onto your sanity while bickering with your teammates. Heh. :P I brought back many bruises, cuts, mosquito bites and even an injured toe! Le sigh.
So were there any good things to counter the bad ones? Well we did learn a lot about responsiblity and self-reflection, and adjusting your attitude towards working better within a team that you have to see practically every day, every hour, and every minute. And as you go through each challenge, successfully conquering your deep-seated fears one by one - the feeling is indescribable and definitely priceless. :)
And saving the best for last now… mwahaha… There was a batch of SIA cadet pilots who arrived just a few days after us. 21 males of differing heights and looks, but males nevertheless and not too surprisingly, the 3 sole Malaysians were the friendliest of the lot. :P Through sheer.. I dunno, luck or something, I got to know the 3 local SIA dudes - there was this one evening where I was walking towards the seaside to look for Rachel, Joe, and Lim, when I bumped into my coursemate Akmal and some other guys. Akmal asked me to take a seat and as I did, I noticed 3 new faces in the group. And that was how I was introduced to Shah, Jinn and Chan. Incidentally me and Nairus (this other coursemate of mine who’s super bubbly and fun, except that she likes to call me ‘Iso-belon’, hmphh) think that Shah and Jinn were probably the best looking guys of the bunch anyway, so it was cool that I got to meet them as effortless as it had turned out to be.
The next stroke of luck was during my second group camping excursion which took place at this island called Pulau Sekadih. Coz when my team was there that night, unexpectedly the SIA group was camping at the same place too. :P Jinn and Shah came over to our camp site to offer their help, so I got Shah to demonstrate his dish-cleaning skills after dinner. Ahahah. He was all like, “Watch and learn from the expert.” Righttt. And it was that night I learned that Jinn studied at the University of Michigan - I instantly said, “So that’s where your accent came from!” Coz he speaks with this very distinct Midwestern American accent, you see. But being on the cheeky side, Jinn just grinned and went, “What accent?” D’oh.
In truth, I had a bad time during the first group camping night, but the second one at Pulau Sekadih totally made up for it. Probably I was getting along better with certain members in my team by then, and the beach was really gorgeous.. clear aquamarine waters and soft sand and all that. :D At nighttime the place was peaceful and the sky was dotted with a gazillion stars - me and Rachel ended up sitting at the beach with Shah and Jinn, talking till 1AM. It was the most relaxed time I had throughout those tough 10 days. Argh.
And thanks to my teammate Fakri who was sooo helpful without being asked to - I got the contacts of these two SIA guys. >:) I was very embarrassed though to be honest, coz this was what happened okay. Fakri and I were just lazing around and chit chatting, and he asked when I was gonna ask for the SIA guys’ numbers. I told him if the chance came, I would ask but if it didn’t, I wasn’t too fussed either. Well right then Shah and Jinn happened to walk past us and Fakri yelled, “Hey! Isobel wants to get your numbers!”
O. M. G. Talk about wanting to find the nearest hole to hide myself in! Shooting a murderous look at Fakri, I said, “Oh no, it’s Fakri who wants your numbers really. He’s just too shy to ask himself.” The guys just laughed and said they didn’t mind passing on their numbers to girls, but not to Fakri. Haha. -_-” Well a few days later I bumped into Jinn and he gave me a slip of paper containing his and Shah’s contacts. So everything ended up okay and I made two new friends, yayy. But still…
…Mohammad Fakri, please don’t ever embarrass me like that ever again!! ;(
Upon returning to civilisation last weekend, I found myself in MOS/Euphoria on Saturday night… I wasn’t planning on doing any clubbing coz I had an injured toe and I wasn’t allowed to wear proper shoes. I went for dinner with the high school gang and later on some of them wanted to go check out MOS, so I tagged along and the bouncer there said it was all right for me to go in dressed the way I was. :P So I was probably the coolest girl there that night, dancing in my pink fake Crocs slippers without the slightest care. LoL They were very comfortable too, I think I danced nonstop for like 2 hours. :D
SCG’s been laughing at my injured toe a lot. He calls it “ugly toe”. Hmphh. No sympathy whatsoever. Nice. Oh I guess I never got to mention that SCG’s in RHB Investment Bank too - such (rotten) luck! As if I haven’t seen enough of him during the 6 months of classroom training we were carpooling, I guess I’ll just have to endure another 6 months during this industrial training period. *slaps forehead* But then my girl Meera is at RHB too, woohoo. :) The rest are sadly scattered at various different financial institutions. Jacklyn is at HSBC, Rachel and Katherine at CIMB, Bryan at UOB, Justin at Maybank, Mun Wai at Hwang DBS, Yuh Yee and Thuresh at OSK, Orical at Kurnia Insurance, Joe at Jerneh Insurance, Sara at Citibank, and finally Geetha and Lim and Lau at Alliance.
I think I’m supposed to have more to say but my memory’s failing me at the moment. Guess I’ll save it for another time ya? I shall go to bed now and prepare for another fulfilling day at work tomorrow. Heh heh. Today was pretty fulfilling too, especially the part where SCG and I got hungry and bored at 5pm so we went to the cafeteria for a self-declared tea break! We’re totally model employees, I know. ;)
Bedtime. Now. Nitey nites!
