anything at all to break the silence

It’s been awhile, hasn’t it?

Well Internet access is still nonexistent in the office. And on the whole, something or other always comes up which results in me not having much time to get online at all lately.

Now that I have the chance to, I’d like to say that yes, I’m still alive and breathing. :)

Today was the reunion dinner in Klang, with my mom’s side of the relatives. The thing is, there’s always been this distance between my family and this set of relatives - even my mom was hardly close to her family. Tonight though, there was a mini breakthrough of sorts for me, where I actually had a decent conversation with my grandmother. It started when I told her “kam xia” (’thank you’ in Hokkien) upon receiving a red packet from her, and she was absolutely tickled by that coz I basically never ever spoke in Hokkien - and Hokkien was her first dialect, though she speaks fluent Cantonese, and English too.

Later on when dinner was over, I asked her if she had a good filling meal. She responded with a smile, “Getting to see all of you is more than enough for me.” We talked more and I found out that my grandmother actually took care of me for a month, back when I was still a baby. It was a pleasant discovery and I believe it brought us that little bit closer. So all in all, it was a pretty okay night. :)

In other news, Maverick is back from Hong Kong. What better way to celebrate than to have the first drinking session of 2009 together, rite? We did exactly that this week, at Ping’s place along with Chiam, Kristen, Brian, Moses and Ewen. Cheers guys!

It’s too bad that Chris couldn’t join. He’s been down with the world’s nastiest case of food poisoning. =/

Oh and I got my long hair cut on Monday after work - it’s just touching my chin right now. I love it! Funnily and unexpectedly enough, SCG was the first person (aside from my family) to see my new hair. His feedback was, “Whoa… New year, new look!”

I shall take it as a compliment. :P After all, we both agree on this saying… Life has to be an incessant process of repair and reconstruction. And I wouldn’t want it any other way.

To end tonight’s post - Happy Chinese New Year, everyone. Wishing you health, wealth, and everything else that’s good!

I dunno when it started to happen, but at some point in recent time the radio has become listenable once again. Happiness!

I think Fly FM deserves a special mention – their playlist keeps me locked onto their frequency way longer than the other stations. Plus their signal is the strongest when I’m driving in KL… Sometimes I only get static with Hitz.fm and Mix FM, how annoying. :P

These are a few of the yummy tunes that were discovered on the radio lately, do take a listen if you haven’t already. :D

♪ Lady GaGa – Just Dance (so, so irresistibly catchy)
♪ Chris Brown & Keri Hilson – Superhuman (this is really good, I’m beginning to think that Chris Brown can do no wrong with his song releases)
♪ We The Kings – Secret Valentine
♪ Thriving Ivory – Angels On The Moon (this is currently Chris’s favoritest song hehe)
♪ Death Cab For Cutie – Grape Vine Fires
♪ All-American Rejects – Gives You Hell (’and truth be told I miss you, and truth be told I’m lying’… ahahah)
♪ Colbie Caillat – The Little Things
♪ Matt Nathanson – Come On Get Higher
♪ Christina Milian – Us Against The World
♪ Metro Station – Seventeen Forever
♪ Taylor Swift – Love Story

all we do is linger

So I went to Republic last night with SCG, Jacklyn, Orical and Nicholas. The drinks and laughter seemed to come nonstop, and soon our feet were itching to dance… So we hopped on over to Bar Celona where we partied the night away. It was 4AM when I flopped onto my bed. Barely 3 hours later I had to drag myself up for work with a horrible hangover and tired limbs. I’m such a zombie right now and I want nothing more than to go home and sleep and never wake up again. How the heck am I gonna get through one whole day of hectic work? Oh why did I have to go clubbing on a week night… Where was my brain?! Someone just shoot me please…

Haha all rite, so the above didn’t actually happen at all. :P I WAS supposed to go for drinks at Republic yesterday night, but at the very last minute I decided I was just too bushed to go anywhere. And so my Thursday night was spent munching leisurely on dinner while watching two rerun episodes of Friends, and after that I fell asleep. :D I woke up briefly when SCG called at 10PM - I drowsily mumbled that I was gonna be a no-show. Then I carried on with my luxurious slumber until 6.30AM. Awesome.

Needless to say I felt totally revitalized today. Nothing could faze me. Even though the roads today were more congested than an overflowing toilet bowl. Even though there was so much going on at work and I was going from 5th floor >> 10th floor >> 7th floor >> 5th floor >> 10th floor >> 7th floor >> 10th floor >> 5th floor >> 7th floor, all in a span of less than two hours. Even though the emails and phone calls kept flooding in. Even though the virus outbreak has crippled the entire office network and we keep having access problems to our inbox and Internet.

Heyy guess what? I’m still smiling. :)

This has served to remind me the wonders of a good night’s sleep. Everything is just a little brighter and even the bad stuff don’t seem as hard to deal with. Whee.

So yeahh I think I’ve made the right choice in giving priority to sleep, for once. Coz if I don’t, there’s always going to be something that will take up my time at the expense of sacrificing my sleep - places to be at, people to be met, tea to be drank, movies to be watched, songs to be sang at the karaoke, et cetera et cetera.

I’ve always been the girl who hardly says no to an outing. It’s usually yes sure, why not. But lately I’ve begun to say yes to something else that’s even more worthwhile… Precious sleep! ;)

the day i failed to smile for the camera

Because my breaths were coming out in short gasps.

And my head swirled in a dizzy spell.

Suddenly inhaling for oxygen became the most challenging thing in the world to do.

I guess it was the restaurant with its lack of air ventilation or something.

It hasn’t been the best weekend, added with the mini imsonia episode on Saturday night/Sunday morning. Imagine waking up with a start at 5.30AM and not being able to go back to sleep. Wide awake and staring at dark shadowy walls. Creepiness. ;(

But having said all this, having someone to catch your fall; someone to run to; someone who’s there… That made an entire universe of difference. Thank you. :)

Unexpected intricacies and unyielding solace.

Say hi to 2oo9.
