the man in the mirror
Posted on Sat, June 27th, 2009 @ 1:48 am

It’s been both a happy and a sad day.

Happy because today marks a joyous occasion where my dear friends Alfred Lawrence Yee Kuan (or Yee Kuan for short :P) and Esther made an official step towards being Mr and Mrs Ng :D Congrats to the happy couple and it was great to see everyone again tonight. We even got a jelly bear cake for the celebration!

And of course, the sad part comes from the shocking news of Michael Jackson’s sudden demise.

I probably wouldn’t call myself a great fan of his. The three things I remember about MJ back in my childhood days were:

1) THE Moonwalk
2) asking my Dad if MJ was male or female (the long hair confused my six-year-old self)
3) this old school jukebox at a frequented dinner place where I’d get a 20-cent coin from Dad and would always, always pick the song ‘Black Or White’ from it

As I grew up, I felt like his glory days were behind him. I mean, yeahh Jackson 5 had plenty of great songs, and then his earlier albums got me singing along to ‘Will You Be There’, ‘Man In The Mirror’ and ‘They Don’t Care About Us’.

But after that, it just seemed like every attempt to revive his musical career never did quite make it. His appearances in the gossip columns were all that he had left and I stopped bothering to know after one too many negative mentions involving him and young kids.

Yet as a friend had said, some of us may not be huge fans but it remains a great loss that MJ is no longer with us. And I’m sure his uncountable ardent supporters all over the world will remember and honor him in a manner that befits a legend. :)

So here’s to a truly one of a kind character - goodbye and rest in peace.

Legendary Michael Jackson

they will see us waving from such great heights

[Edit] Oh how could I have forgotten - I stepped into Edison Chen’s Juice store in Bangsar <3 ..for all of like 10 seconds :D Teehee. I would've stayed longer but it was Sunday, the day after its official opening, and there was practically nothing left on the shelves except some men's shirts and pants.. hmphh. [/Edit]

Hello. Sorry I’d dropped from the face of the Earth for quite some time now – blame it on work!

My boss is on a 2-week leave and I’m effectively the head of my department until she returns. It’s not as fun as it sounds, believe me :(

There’s no one else to take care of the massive workload, and not to mention the crucial decisions that only a senior manager should make… So you can imagine the stress level I’m dealing with on a daily basis here. The madness just doesn’t want to stop. Last week I was plagued by dreams (read: nightmares) about work every night!

Thank goodness the weekend provided some relief. I got to see the people I want to see, I attended a birthday celebration without the birthday boy, I think I found a kindred spirit who was excited when Will Smith added her back on Twitter and we couldn’t stop squealing, I pondered on the merits of love, I saw a friendship status being “promoted” from good friends to best friends for no apparent reason but thank you :), I had a ridiculous moment of nearly walking out of the cinema during Blood The Last Vampire (don’t watch it, just don’t), I got myself a new handbag because you can never have too many, and I realize I cannot live without a comforting hug from time to time. Or like all the time. Haha sigh.

So Transformers 2 tonight. Can’t wait! Already the bad reviews are dropping in like rainfall. But I don’t care, as long as there’s Shia Lebouef, Megan Fox (who is probably adored by boys, girls, gays, lesbians, and everything else in between) and Bumblebee – it’s all good :D

slogging away
Posted on Wed, June 10th, 2009 @ 7:33 pm

Hi all. Welcome to the very first post for my newly created Sick Log.

If you know me well enough, you’d know how prone to falling sick I can be. I figured I might as well share my misery with the blogosphere. Chuah says maybe germs see me as attractive. Hmphh I should hope not. Anyway there’s bound to be many upcoming entries for the S.log, how exciting. Or not.

For my current case of flu and throat irritation and such - today is Day 3 of medication and Day 2 of sick leave from work.

The good: no more splitting headache in the morning, less congestion in the nose, and reduced sneezing fits.

The bad: arms feeling like jelloid, lightheaded-ness, a general numb sensation all over (I’m lucky I didn’t get into a car accident when I drove to the clinic today to get my second MC, blehs), leaking nose, and a slowdown in thought processing.

Oh well. At least I managed to catch up on some Ugly Betty episodes and I’m that much closer to finishing Eclipse, the third book in the Twilight series. Bella is slightly less annoying in this book. Only slightly.

“oink” if you’re sick
Posted on Mon, June 8th, 2009 @ 3:29 pm

It’s taken me a few days to admit this but yes… I’m officially SICK. The glamorous list of symptoms include: clogged nose, sneezing, blocked ear (yeah it’s only one my left ear?!), headache, sore throat, and tired eyes.

Panadol hardly ever fails me, but this time around it did little to relieve the sickness. So it’s off to the doctor’s later after work.

Haha I wonder if it’s the H1N1? *scares self* >.<

here’s another sunday morning call
Posted on Fri, June 5th, 2009 @ 4:52 pm

Sometimes I look at my blog and I can’t help laughing. The header image needs to be changed ASAP, I know. In fact this site will be going through a design overhaul very soon (soon being a relative term :P). How do you guys feel about PINK? ;) And maybe some orange too haha.

Meanwhile I’ve been inspired to talk about my phone ownage since I found it interesting when others do so. Except my list is super short. Chris could hardly believe I only had 4 phones in my life - yes count ‘em FOUR. I guess I can get pretty fussy and choosy about my phones. Not only that, once I acquire it I get overly attached thereafter to the point where it almost hurt to let go. :P Hmm why does it sound like I’m talking about boyfriends? Hehe.

Anyways here goes!

Nokia 3350
My dad got me my very first mobile when I entered uni, and I wanted something that was not the Nokia 3310 which everyone and their grandma had. :P So I got this. The keypad was REALLY uncomfortable to use and I suffered for a year before switching to a new handset. The only good memories of the 3350 were the surprise little reminder notes set at 11:59PM and 7:59AM asking me to go to bed and to wake up. They were keyed in by someone who used to mean the world to me. :) Oh, and lotsa missed call games were played with friends on this phone too. We were such kids! Ahahah.

Nokia 3100
SMS-friendly keypad, check. Extremely pocketable size, check. Fancy factor in the form of glow-in-the-dark rim, check. I liked this phone so much that I kept it for 2 years. Woots. I wanted the white set but the guy at the store advised me against it coz it’d just get dirty and ugly in a matter of months. So I went with the black/blue version. My dad is using the phone now, it still works after 4 long years. Ph34r Nokia!

Sony Ericsson Z520i
I was looking for a flip phone that wasn’t too bulky, and this fitted the requirements. Again I was aiming for the white set but the white edition was not available during the first few months and I got impatient… So it was the gray one then which came with another interchangeable cover in navy blue. It was a fun phone with comfortable keypad and pretty blue lights running on its edges when there’s a call or text (do you see a pattern here). Unfortunately the external screen kept dying on me… I gave up after sending it to be fixed 3 times and still no improvement. My affair with this Sony Ericsson phone lasted barely a year.

Nokia 6300
Ah I got this mobile last year in March, and I’m still a happy 6300 user til today. :) Sure the short battery life is a pain in the you-know-where and I have to ensure I bring a charger with me wherever I go. But but but! I’m just absolutely won over by its slim form, brilliant color screen, and as always, a keypad that makes texting a joyful experience. Only thing is, it doesn’t have WiFi or other smartphone features, and in this Age of the Internetz, it presents a reason for a possible phone upgrade soon. But the 6300 will always be a favorite as it has served me well. :D

that’s what you get when you let your heart win
Posted on Tue, June 2nd, 2009 @ 4:43 pm

It’s June and all I want is to disappear.

There are things that I’d rather not think about. There are times when it’s easier to conceal everything behind a blank smile and a hollow laugh. All the fragile emotions, the what-ifs, the vulnerability, the tiny cracks in the glass, the sensation of being sucked into a vortex and eternal freefalling without ever hitting the ground.

I don’t know what to do with the kind gestures and the good intentions. The slight touch of cold fingertips. Those 3 words, and the other 3 words. The randomness of being asked “Why do you always look so sad?” and being called “a restless spirit”. The instances when I feel I’m being pushed away and I just need to escape so that I can’t be pushed further.

When you say you understand, do you really?

====

*takes a deep breath* But hey. Despite the misery, it’s somewhat comforting to know the world still continues to turn. It’s a good thing my lungs have not forgotten to inhale and exhale.

Last Friday was graduation day for a year-long training program I was in that ended last December. What a reunion it was… Sara, Nairuz, Fairuz, Bryan, Justin, SCG, Orical, MunWai, Katherine, Rachel, HuiYee, etc etc… If only Jacklyn was around too. :) A whole bunch of us had a fun karaoke session at Neway, before catching Terminator Salvation. Total riot!

Saturday was Phuture@Zouk night. Carmen the birthday girl got really tipsy-happy, the music was good, and we finally got to meet Babi Pooi’s girlfriend Sedonna. So yeahh it was a successful outing all in all. :)

On Sunday I met up with the MMU gang coz Ah Lock was back from Singapore for a bit. Club 7 went through yet another renovation, the crowd was pretty all right for a Sunday night. At the end of the session we all concluded that A) we’re getting old, like seriously, and B) we’d give anything and a half just to go back to those wonderful uni days of ours. 3AM suppers, 6AM breakfasts, and let’s not forget the house parties!!

Monday came around and I found myself at the usual SS15 Old Taste cafe with the usual peeps i.e. Carmen and Chuah. Couldn’t say I was the most sociable person to be with, but these two were as always, my source of solace, understanding, brutally honest opinions, and tons of encouragement. Cheers to that, and yummy jasmine tea too.

And what’s in store for Tuesday? It’s Kelly The Colleague’s birthday so the plan’s gonna be dinner and some entertainment after. We’re keeping it low-key since everyone’s broke from the nonstop birthday events lately. I know I definitely am.

It’s funny how the moment I decide to be antisocial, all the plans come a-calling. It’s amazing how I even find time to be emo eh. Oh well. Hope everyone’s doing good. Back to work now..
