would you have turned away?Posted on Tue, August 25th, 2009 @ 4:28 pm
I got stopped outside my office today during lunchtime, while waiting for Chris to drop by.
It was a lady on a motorbike with a man seated behind her.
She asked me anxiously, “Miss, do you work here?”
My first thought was, oh she must be asking for directions.
But she went on to say, “Please help! My husband and I just got robbed… They took all our money and they hurt my husband..”
My eyes darted towards the man, and true enough, his arm was bleeding from slash wounds.
(Side note: I get queasy at the sight of blood, thank goodness I managed to hold it together instead of passing out on the sidewalk - which would’ve made the situation a whole lot more complicated.. pheww :P)
Both husband and wife looked at me pleadingly. “Please, we need some cash to see a doctor. We can take down your phone number and return the money to you later today..”
Without really thinking further, I opened my wallet and grabbed the only red note I have. By then Chris was parked beside me and after a rushed explanation to him, he gave me two more notes which I handed to the couple on the bike.
“What’s your phone number, Miss? I’ll contact you to repay you..”
I shook my head. “It’s okay, just go on ahead.”
Soon after, I got into Chris’s car and we talked about what had just happened.
Was it a real case?
Or did we get tricked?
Was the entire thing staged and was the blood actually some splattering of red liquid?
Why did the couple worry so much about having money to pay for the clinic fees? The lady could have dropped her husband at the clinic first and then go back home to get some money, couldn’t she?
Would other people have stopped and helped as much as they can too?
Or would they have turned away regardless of the authenticity of the incident?
Well all I can say is, at that point I was horrified by the couple’s story and I really couldn’t just walk away.
If I did indeed get duped, so be it. All that was lost was based on monetary terms which could always be earned back.
But but but, if Chris and I really did manage to help two people who were in need today, then that’s great. It’s the sort of feeling that’s worth risking being tricked, don’t you think? :)

can’t buy me lovePosted on Tue, August 18th, 2009 @ 9:41 pm
Doesn’t it feel like August is just whizzing by?
I remember July so vividly, in overwhelming length. There were too many days and not nearly enough cash on the payroll to stretch til the 31st.
In short, I bought many things in the month of July :D
The major purchase would be my Nokia E71… ahahah finally. I’d been deliberating this new phone thing for months and months, so that’s been put to rest at last. *relieved* Thanks to Chris for the partial funding, which ensured I didn’t have to eat grass for the rest of the month heh heh.
Shopping-wise, I managed to snap up some pretty good bargains I think. Observe:

Exhibit A - Radioactive’s black blazer that works for formal and casual occasions, this is versatility at its best and only RM50 after discount

Exhibit B - Mary Jane heels from Tang’s Studio label, originally going for RM229.90 but was slashed to RM68 during sales
So yeahh. Money can’t buy me love… But I think discounts can <3> Whee!

moms say the darnest thingsPosted on Sat, August 8th, 2009 @ 2:07 pm
So my mom was telling us about her recent trip to Sulawesi with Dad, where they had a trekking session at one point.
(Why my parents are the adventurous sort who hike through jungles voluntarily, while I have always declared myself as allergic to nature - well I don’t really know, it’s one of life’s greatest mysteries! :P)
According to Mom, our dearest Daddy got bitten by leeches over and over. Simply because he, a manly man, refused to put on the recommended ladies’ long johns. Absolutely refused.
And all my mom could say to that was, “Haiyo confirm he’s 100% straight!”

memoir #4Posted on Fri, August 7th, 2009 @ 11:48 am
Every time I mentioned I was sick, you would immediately check my forehead for a temperature.
Most of the times I’d roll my eyes because I didn’t even get the chance to further say that it wasn’t a fever..!
Thinking back now, I used to be so spoilt with attention, and I never did appreciate it the way I should have.. :)

dusk and summerPosted on Tue, August 4th, 2009 @ 5:40 pm
Our first visit to Tanjung Sepat was about 2 years back. We had so much fun, and so last weekend we finally made our way there again.
This time around there was no beach session coz we were too late for the sunset. Plus our tummies were very vocal in being directed to food like, immediately. :P
So we went to the same place we ate previously, Baywatch Restaurant, which is one of the more popular seafood eateries in Tanjung Sepat. I won’t post up any food pictures coz they turned out quite weird and looked really unappetising LoL
Anyways, here is the grand list of stuff we had for our very filling dinner:
- prawns, cooked with wine
- stingray, steamed in their specialty sauce of ginger, cili padi, etc
- butter fried squid
- salted egg fried squid
- tofu soup
- oyster omelette
- kai lan veggie
And the bill came up to RM98 for the four of us :) Not too bad, I think, considering we were expecting the figure to go way past RM100.

The seaside next to Baywatch Restaurant.
Carmen, Babi Pooi, Isobel.
Carmen, JKL Chuah, Isobel - world peace!!
**Excuse the jagged edges of the photos, I dunno what happened in Photoshop and I can’t be bothered to fix them :D
On the way back home, we decided to go for a late-night movie.

The Proposal - awesome, awesome, and awesome.
Sometimes it’s the quirks and flaws of a person that make you fall for them, eh? By the way, Kevin the puppy is way too adorable for words. *melts*
