waiting for my rocket to comePosted on Thu, October 29th, 2009 @ 6:45 pm
So recently I’ve come to realize I have a few particular pet peeves that never fail to make my eyebrows furrow and go “hrmppph!”.
Pet peeve #1 - Toll cutters who are unprepared to pay.
You know them. You’re approaching the toll booths and out of nowhere, they speed up their vehicle so that they’ll end up in front of you in the queue. Which would’ve been fine, except they never have the toll payment ready once it’s their turn and they take 20 seconds idling there, holding up you and everyone else at the line, as they search for their wallet. Why the hurry to get to the booth then? Hmphhh.
Pet peeve #2 - Fake emo storytelling in radio ads.
Seriously, does anyone buy into the sickly emotions-drenched voice ads about “my son who wouldn’t have died from dengue had I been a better father and taken him to the hospital” and “I’m a good mother who kill (dengue mosquitoes) for the sake of my family’s health”? No offense to the voice talents coz I’m sure they tried their best, but the whole thing just lacks authenticity and nobody’s gonna care if the tragedy isn’t real, right? It’d be better to get real people with real experience to talk in the ads, though of course easier said than done. But yeah in this jaded cynical world of ours, you can’t just fake sad stuff and expect us to empathize, hmphhh!
Pet peeve #3 - Vehicles with only one (out of three) brake light working.
Just. Not. Safe. I really can’t stand driving behind such vehicles :( Even when you keep your distance, cars always might have to pull an emergency brake on you and it’s not easy to tell when the majority of their light indicators don’t work, especially the more noticeable third brake light. I can understand if just one brake light is out and the driver hasn’t had the time to fix it just yet, but what are the chances of having two brake lights that are broken? I’d think they’ve prolly been not working for quite some time then.. Are these people just too darn lazy to replace the bulbs?! Hmphhh.
Pet Peeve #4 - Sprint race at the elevators.
Okay this is not as annoying as the other three, but it’s silly when you’re standing and waiting for the elevator and people who arrive shortly after insist on stepping right in front of you so that they’d be the first to get on. I’m talking about cases where you’re initially already standing pretty close to the elevator, leaving just enough space for people to come out, and then some doozy person rushes to be ahead of you so there’s literally no space left and they’d be blocking the outflow of humans from the elevator. Hmphhh indeed.
