a familiar face

See, we’ve been friends since practically my first month as a student at MMU, four years ago. He was my best friend’s friend, then he was my classmate, and eventually we became best friends and housemates as well.

We’ve been through loads of stuff. Laughter and fiery tempers and tears, playing online chess through Yahoo Messenger, feasting on instant noodles and soft drinks at 4 AM, pillow fights, and even getting into a near-accident on the road on one highly emotional and strung-out night. I remember best of those times when he’d be washing his car at the ground floor of our apartment building, and I’d be sitting around, watching on as him and I talked lazily about anything and everything. He was usually the first to notice when I got upset. And in return, I was always there to listen when he had problems.

But eventually the friendship disintegrated. Not because we drifted apart so much so that we stopped being such good friends, and it wasn’t due to an argument or anything. To be honest, I don’t even know why it had to happen like that, but I have my guesses and I never thought of blaming him. :)

So anyway, after a long stretch of time without contact (we’re talking about nearly a year here), I got a text message from him recently, on a new number, asking how I was doing and stuff. He just signed off the message with his initials, ‘BK’, and I instantly had no doubt it was him. The strange thing was, I couldn’t send a reply back no matter how many times I tried. It always failed to go through. This was about two weeks ago, and it slowly got pushed to the back of my mind.

Until today at lunch…

I’d taken a seat at Happy Chef, this eating place near where my office is, and was on the lookout for my colleague.. when my eyes swept across a familiar face not too far away. He smiled in surprise, I waved, and he came over for a chat.

So it turned out that he was working right here at Phileo Damansara too, just a few blocks away from mine, in fact. Omg. What a crazy coincidence. Like he said, both of us could’ve been working anywhere in Malaysia, and even Klang Valley itself was pretty big, so what were the chances of us bumping into each other like this eh? And here I was the whole time, wondering how to get in touch with him… *shakes head* :D

Life’s little surprises never cease to amaze me.
